#10-02

This piece is called Primordial Blossom. It is my interpretation of what a constructed blossom might look like. As you might well imagine, it took quite a while to design and realize. Check out the large photos by clicking on the thumbnail. The central piece is not wood, it is Micarta. The size of the piece is 6" diameter by 5 3/4" tall.

#15-04

Turned from elm, this piece was found inside the intersection of 3 major branches of the tree. I turned it green about 2 years ago and just recently completed it. As you can see from the large photos, it is almost all knots. Hence the name, Knot Party. This would be very hard to turn using conventional tools, but with my turning tools it is a breeze. (Shameless plug there.) It is a fairly thin walled turning measuring about 5 1/4" diameter by 5" tall.

Here's one of my toothpick holders that I've just finished. It is about 7 1/2" tall from the base to the top of the stopper. The woods are Asian Mahogany, cherry and ebony. I've used pyrography on the tapered section of the stopper for a nice pattern. The inside where the toothpicks go is not finished except for a little ways into the hole from the top. The base is finished and it is signed and numbered. This would make a nice functional centerpiece on your Holiday table. If you've been looking for a gift for someone but don't know if they already have one, I can assure you they won't have one of these until you give it to them.

Here's a toothpick holder with a bit more of an angular design to the body. The woods include mahogany, cherry and maple. There are some more but I'm not certain of them all. As you can see the stopper is a segmented piece and includes pyrography on the sealing section. I've added some toothpicks to the image so that you can judge the size. It is about 7 1/4" tall with the stopper in place. Check out the larger photos by clicking on the photo to the left. You can see that I make a different design in the pyrography with each piece to give it a distinctive detail.

Another toothpick holder, but this one has a segmented body. It measures about 6 1/2" tall with the stopper in place. The woods include white and red oak, maple, rosewood, osage orange and Oregon myrtle wood. Again, I've enjoyed myself with the pyrography on the stopper. I've also added a bit of pyrography on the edge of the base.

Tawdry Whisper 1.JPG (61285 bytes) #11-04 "Tawdry Whisper"

Don't ask me. The name just came to me as I was putting the finishing touches on this. It is made of willow and measures 7 1/2" diameter by 1 1/2" tall. Therefore, it is more of a platter than a bowl. It is very light and has pyrography pattern on the outer lip and pyrography and pigments on the detail at the center. This would make a nice centerpiece or a wall hanging if you get a plate hanger. Check out the photo page for better images and a detail shot of the graphic in the center.

trans1a.jpg (75580 bytes) #2-01  Trans-Stature

Completed in 2001, this piece was designed and conceptualized in advance as a study of what could be accomplished with a lidded vessel. The primary design idea was that the lid would fit on either end, thereby blurring the distinction between "top" and "bottom". Once designed the process of creating it began, and continued far beyond anything I could have imagined. If fact, had I known what it would have taken I never would have begun. It was a very difficult piece to realize. I had to design solutions to the various challenges as they sprung up. The production of this piece was very well documented and is one of the featured pieces used when I present my Segmented Turning design class. The new owner will have the option of receiving a copy of the PowerPoint presentation I've developed on this piece along with all photos taken during its production. The final piece measures a little over 13" tall with the lid on and about 7" in diameter at the bowl section. The woods include Flamewood, cherry (choke cherry to be exact), rosewood, maple, lace wood and cocobola.  It is signed and dated.
