Tool Hardware

The hardware for the tools is shown below. It consists of the machined body made of 4140 chrome-molly steel, epoxy with mixing stick, washer to use between the tool body and handle (if desired), cobalt cutting bit insert, set screws to hold the cutting bit, an Allen wrench to use to tighten the bit holding screws and a Neodymium magnet to hold the Allen wrench in the handle (That's that tiny dot just below the mixing stick). The tool body is 9" long not including the tang that goes into the handle. If you wish to purchase the hardware only I sell that for $45 plus shipping.

Sharpening Blocks

I now have available sharpening blocks to make the process of sharpening your tool inserts much easier. They are designed to be used with a conventional grinder with an adjustable tool rest. Simply insert the tool bit into the sharpening block and tighten the Allen screw to hold the bit in the block. Place the block on the grinder's tool rest and adjust for the proper angle by matching the previous angle on the bit. (NOTE: grinder must be OFF for this part!) Tighten the tool rest and turn on the grinder. Then simply move the block flat on the tool rest as you sharpen the bit. Be careful not to "blue" the bit tip. Take light cuts and quench often. As you can see, the block is good for both straight and angled bits. (Bits shown not included)

This is the block you'll get with Allen wrench It measures 2 1/2" long by 1" wide to give stable support as you sharpen the tool bit.

This photo shows the block being used on a grinder. As you can see, the block allows easy maneuvering of the bit on the wheel while also giving you complete control and stability during the sharpening operation.

This shows how to adjust the tool rest on your grinder for the proper angle by simply matching the angle on the bit.

The block can hold hooked bits and also bits from 1/4" down to 1/8" square bits. It will also hold bits with curved bottoms such as from Sorby and other manufacturers.
